I am a lecturer at the College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT) at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE). I received my PhD and M.Sc. in Computer and Information Systems Engineering in 2016 and 2012 respectively from Tennessee State University (TSU) in the USA. I received a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering and Information Technology from UDSM in 2009. I currently serve as a Gender Focal Point at the College of ICT.
My current research interests are in areas of Moving Target Defense, Cyber Deception, Attack Behavior Modeling, Software-Defined Security for Critical Infrastructures, Machine Learning, Big Data Analytics, human-centred Design based Innovation. I am also keen on work related to cyber-physical infrastructure security; infrastructure that I have worked on include; Smart grids and the Cloud. I have worked on research projects funded by several agencies such as SIDA, UNICEF, DHS, Airforce Research Lab, DoE, and NSF. I have published in many recognized conferences and journals such as IEEE’s MILCOM and Elsevier’s COMCOM.
I also engage in innovation activities using the human-centred Design (HCD) approach for greater social impact, with the focus of bridging the digital and gender divide. In this regard, I manage and coordinate all project activities under the Youth for Children (Y4C) innovation hub.
Joseph Mushi
Joseph Cosmas is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He received his BSc. Computer Science degree from University of Dar es Salaam, thereafter Msc. Information and Communication Systems Engineering from the Wuhan University of Technology in Wuhan city, P. R. China. He is also holding a PhD in Computer Science attained from the University of Dar es Salaam.
His research interests span both Computer Networking and Network Science. Much of his work has been on improving the understanding, design, and performance of network algorithms and mobile computing. In the networking arena, he has worked on improving load balance in the routing algorithm of the mobile ad-hoc network (MANET) by enhancing multilayered functionalities of Internet Protocol (IP) to device security mitigation on mobile data connectivity, and web services workloads distribution in mobile data connectivity.

I am a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, College of Information and Communication Technologies (CoICT), University of Dar es Salaam. I received an undergraduate degree, BSc in Computer Science from the University of Dar es Salaam (2009), MSc in Computer Science from Periyar University in India (2012). I have also received a PhD in Software Engineering from the Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg in Germany (2019).
My main research interests are in the fields of Software Engineering, Information Systems, the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence. These fields stimulate deep and fascinating scientific problems which promote the understanding of the underlying science of computers to facilitate the development of innovative solutions that would make the ICT solutions to be of more helpful to us. Research topics that I am working on, or have recently worked on, include:
- Modelling and Transformation
- Operator- based Viewpoints Definition
- Software and Reference Architectures
- Exploring the Information Flow Challenges
- AI for Predictive Analytics
- Verbal Autopsy (VA) approaches in determining Causes of Death.
