About Us
Y4C is a convening and training space with an aim to invest in open innovation by young people that contribute to both National goals and sustainable development goals.
The Y4C hub provides unique value in its emphasis on human centered design (HCD) and challenge- driven approaches where projects are directly linked to solving real challenges facing the society.
The Y4C hub is housed at the University of Dar es Salaam College of ICT, and was established in collaboration between UDSM-COICT and UNICEF Tanzania signed on September 2016.
What we Do

We train youths on how they can apply human centered design(hcd) to innovate sustainable solutions.

Allow students to conduct y-talks, organize events such as special workshops, seminars and hackathons.

We provide lab space and seed funding to turn ideas into solutions.

Y4C hub accepts successful applicants to undertake their practical training at y4c which helps students gain different skills such as Technical, development,critical thinking skills,research and reach workspace experience.

ODK Training

Most modern way of collecting data, ODK training equipped the students on better and a more effective way of data collection ,making them more equipped for during research period. Also a brief introduction of KoboToolkit as a platform for preparing research question which support various data types such as location apart from short and long responses.
Practical Training

Every year Y4C recruites new members at the hub, this members undergo through an intensive HCD training and afterwards they are given different challenges brought to us by different stakeholders, to try to use the skills given in solving the challenges. Tanzania Youth DIgital Summit (TYDS)

This is an Annual event and platform that empower the next generation of digital champions in Tanzania. Y4C Innovators got an opportunity to show how they use Human Centered Design to solve problems from the community.
MAKISATU Competition

Rapid Pro Hackthon

Y4C together with UNICEF Tanzania conducted an online hackthon that aimed at Improving the U-Report platform. And the best solutions were selected to continue modifying their solution to its completion stage. Team Ace, Team Groove and Team Aplha were the Top 3 winning teams
Women and Girls in Science

Seminars
Entrepreneurship

Y4C hosts Entrepreneurship training , so as to capacitate the innovators who have managed to develop a working prototype of the challenges that they were solving. This practical session involve presentation of the existing prototypes to the Mentors and receiving feedback of how to create a sustainable value out of it.
